Semi-permanent make-up is a completely safe and effective form of cosmetic tattooing and works by implanting pharmaceutical grade pigments of your choice into the chosen treatment area. You may here the treatment described as ‘Permanent’ makeup and this is because the colour is being introduced into the upper dermal layer of skin and although the pigment will fade over time, it will often remain in the skin even if not completely visible.

Step by Step process

  1. At the Clinic

    During your consultation with one of our experienced Practitioner we will find out more about your concerns and goals and talk through the treatment in detail. We’ll go through your medical history in order to make sure your suitable for treatment and analyse the areas you’re looking to treat in order to prepare a suitable treatment plan.

  2. The Treatment

    Semi-Permanent Make-Up is a two part process. Your first appointment will involve a thorough consultation with your artist to discuss your desired look. You and your artist will decide on the perfect shape, colour and definition and then the treatment can start.

    During the tattooing process many liken the sensation to that of an electric toothbrush being held against the skin with minimal discomfort often said to be no worse than tweezing or threading. The tattooing process normally takes up to 2 hours, but it varies from person to person depending on your individual requirements.

  3. Post Treatment

    At the end of the treatment, you should expect the area to look 40-50% darker than the colour you have chosen in consultation. This will start to fade after 7-10 days.
    The area may be slightly red and swollen after but this should subside after 24 hours. Your skins surface generally heals between 3-7 days after the treatment, and it takes 14 days for the area to be fully healed below the surface. We will provide you with a balm to use every day to encourage healing.
    A top up appointment is included in the price of your initial treatment and is usually booked 6 weeks later. This appointment allows for any finishing touches that may be required to adjust shape, colour or density.
    You will be given full aftercare guidelines to ensure the best results from your semi-permanent makeup after your treatment.

  1. What is semi-permanent makeup?

    Semi-permanent make-up, also known as micropigmentation, is a form of short-term cosmetic tattooing which allows you to have long-lasting eyeliner and lip colour as well as being able to shape and contour your eyebrows. This colouring will stay in the skin for a number of years, gradually breaking down and fading with time, while the longevity of the outcomes will depend on your age and skin type.

  2. How safe is permanent makeup?

    In the hands of a trained individual, the processes are generally safe. But governing agencies hasn’t kept pace with the progression of the permanent makeup industry, and there are stacks of unqualified people exercising needles.

  3. What’s the difference between permanent makeup and semi-permanent makeup?

    Technically, permanent cosmetics practices are considered long-lasting because the colour is inserted into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. Nevertheless, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance, colour re-enhancement or colour refreshing.

    No matter what we call it, many people will continue to need and want the benefits of long-lasting cosmetically tattooed makeup, even if it is only semi-permanent.

  4. How long will it take to recover from Micropigmentation?

    No recovery time is essential, nevertheless treated areas will appear a little dark for a few days and subsequently exfoliate and ease to a more natural looking shade, the second visit will be necessary to perfect the shape and deepen the colour.
